Actually, it's more of a 3-second of fame.
It all started when my dad mentioned that he had a friend who offered complimentary tickets to a noontime show. I thought, maybe it’s my chance to be seen on TV, as part of the audience maybe. So I grabbed the chance, scored the free tickets and freed up this particular Sunday.
The show usually starts at 12:00nn, and the audience was expected to be there by 10:00AM. My sister and I got to the studio by a little past 11 and needless to say, we were late. The gates were already closed. We decided to go to the reception area to talk to someone (anyone!) and noticed groups of people milling around, pleading their way in. Some were late like us, and some didn't have tickets at all. To cut the long story short, the receptionists and the studio/event marshalls singled us out and led us to where the studio was, leaving the rest of them behind.
Maybe it was because of how we looked? How we carried ourselves? Ok, please don’t get me wrong. I'm not saying that I'm pretty. But I know I looked more um, presentable? than most of the people there at that time. Maybe what they say is true, that physical appearance is the most important thing in that kind of business.
And maybe this was also the reason why I got my 3-second of fame. It was weird and cool at the same time that the cameramen and floor managers noticed us and kept on panning the camera on our direction. At times, they would even cajole us (just the 2 of us!) to move/stand up/dance while pointing the camera. I got panned at twice and focused twice too! Yey!!
My sister and I being the first audience participants showed on TV during the opening number =) |
So anyway, I know I looked like a dork at that time, clapping, singing and mooning over them. I'm a sucker for artistas, for those of you who don't know yet. That's why this was perfect for me, I got to appear in television in the same show where some of the coolest pinoy artistas were (Piolo Pascual included)!
At home, I forced my family to watch the show. I wanted them to serve as my witnesses, just in case. And true enough, my mother has been regaling about the moments her 2 daughters got "TV exposure."
me: Mother! Am I an artista na?
mother: No. Artistahin, maybe.
NOT! I knew she just had to say that cause I’m her daughter. Haha!
Oh well. Even if I don’t have what it takes to be on TV like them artistas, I can still say that I appeared in a major television network already.. Noontime na, variety show pa! Ha.
