one of my friends who elicited the first type of reaction told me that there was a speed dating event we can go to almost a week after i hit my birthday. so i thought, what the heck. however hesitant i was (moreso at the thought that this will be the first item i'll cross out from my list), i went and participated in the affair.
it was a combination of your usual superficial talks when introduced to someone new and weird conversations you'd never imagine having with a 'stranger.' there was a lawyer (from my alma mater), an enterprenuer (claiming corporate work is not for him), another enterprenuer (claiming he wants to go back to the corporate world, to the chagrin of his parents) and even a bum (who aleady told me of the possible job interview schedules he has). there were people who couldn't stop talking, and some people who i've shared awkward silences with. i even overheard someone actually ask "can i smell you?" during 1 of the activities. and maybe i just tried so hard to be polite that evening, or maybe it was the tad bit alcohol that made me charming, but someone actually shouted "shotgun at claire!" during the 'free-for-all-choose-your-own-partner' session. freaky.
for whatever its worth, it was a fun event. no, i did not experience spark with any of the people who joined. no, i did not give my number to anyone. and no, i don't have plans on following through with it. however, this must be said: meeting new people is never dull. and meeting them in this kind of way is definitely an experience.
in hindsight, maybe it was a good thing.. that this be the first item i had accomplished. i learned that at this point, i should not hesitate in doing any of the things in my list anymore. when an oppurtunity presents itself, i should grab it with enthusiasm. and when it hasn't, i should find a way to make it happen. making my bucket list is not enough. finishing will be my accomplishment. but making the most out of it not only makes it worthwhile but also gives it more sense of meaning.
so with that said and done, i am happy to announce that i've officially started my adventure. as 1 cousin said during my birthday: bucket list time!!!
